The ninth annual celebration of Texas' beloved cheese dip is slated for 1 to 4 p.m. on July 27 at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, and organizer Adi Anand has opened applications for this year's contest, which draws about 30 competitors, including restaurants, chefs and home-cooks who compete in four categories: meaty, spicy, veggie and wild card.
The crowd votes on the favorites in each of those categories, but a panel of judges will pick a best in show winner. Anyone can enter and there is no fee. You can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up, and you can compete in multiple categories.
The event is free to attend, but bags of chips cost $5.
