Here's what's happening in the Live Music Capital of the World this week.

OUR TOP PICKS

Friday: Walter Beasley at One World Theatre. With two dozen releases on both major and indie labels since his 1987 self-titled debut, Beasley is one of the most accomplished smooth-jazz saxophonists of his generation. Also a professor at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music, Beasley has released several of his albums on his own Affable Records label. $20-$60. 7 and 9:30 p.m. 7701 Bee Caves Road. oneworldtheatre.org. — P.B.

Saturday: Malford Milligan & the Southern Aces record release at Saxon Pub. The former Storyville frontman’s recent projects, from solo releases to records with Big Cat and Tyrone Vaughan, have been met with varying degrees of attention and acclaim. But last fall’s “Life Will Humble You,” recorded with an ace team of Dutch musicians, was an auspicious surprise, quite possibly the best record Milligan has made since the Storyville days. Three members of the Southern Aces crew — guitarists Jack Hustinx and Eric van Dijsseldonk, plus bassist Roelof Klijn — have made the trip across the ocean for this better-late-than-never release show. $15. 10 p.m. 1320 S. Lamar Blvd. thesaxonpub.com. (Milligan & the Southern Aces also will play a free 5 p.m. Friday in-store at Waterloo Records.) — P.B.

Tuesday: Emily King at Antone’s. The triumphant new release “Scenery” is a dazzling collection that showcases King’s uncanny knack for refined songcraft. She creates artful compositions that beckon the listener with palpable urgency. Her breathy voice shifts from wistful whisper singing over jazzy club grooves to soaring, gospel-inflected soul. The production is sophisticated without feeling too slick, and the ebullient vibes are hard to resist. $30. 8 p.m. 305 E. 5th St. antonesnightclub.com — D.S.S.

Wednesday: Al Green at Bass Concert Hall. After seven years spent focused on his Memphis ministry, the soul legend kicks off his first tour since 2012 in Austin. Tickets aren’t cheap, but with a deep catalog that includes timeless hits like “Let’s Stay Together,” “Love and Happiness” and “Tired of Being Alone,” this performance by the masterful 72-year-old vocalist should be one for the ages. $69.50-$249.50. 8 p.m. 2350 Robert Dedman Drive. texasperformingarts.org — D.S.S.

Wednesday: Tameca Jones at Austin Central Library. If you’re not ready to drop the big bucks, how about some homegrown soul from Austin’s queen of steamy, slow-burning love jams. Long regarded as one of Austin’s top talents, Jones has been building her national profile with a series of road trips with Gary Clark Jr. We’ll be on hand to talk to her about her music and her career after the free performance at Austin’s coolest new public space. Free with RSVP. 7 p.m. 710 W. Cesar Chavez St. austintexas.gov/central-library — D.S.S.

Thursday: Mdou Moctar at Hotel Vegas. Imagine Prince’s “Purple Rain” set not in Minneapolis but in … the Sahara Desert. That’s the idea behind “Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai” — which translates, naturally, to “Rain the Color Blue With a Little Red in It.” Tuareg guitarist Moctar is the star of the film, which the Austin Film Society is screening on Wednesday at AFS Cinema. On Thursday, Moctar will perform at Hotel Vegas in what seems like one of the East Austin venue’s most fascinating bookings in recent memory. Think No Think opens. $15. 9 p.m. 1502 E. 6th St. texashotelvegas.com. — P.B.
