Music

Lucinda Williams at ACL Live. Is “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road” the best album Williams ever made? Personally, I’d lean toward her 1988 self-titled album, which put her on the map as a major American singer-songwriter. But “Car Wheels” was without question a major breakthrough for the occasional Austinite, netting her a Grammy and a gold record. On a tour to celebrate its 20th anniversary, she’s playing the album in full, along with a second set of careerwide selections. 8 p.m. April 8. $39-$49. 310 Willie Nelson Blvd. acl-live.com — Peter Blackstock

The first series, presented over eight weeks, showcases critically acclaimed narrative and documentary films from Magnolia’s extensive library. Playing this week is “Jiro Dreams of Sushi,” a documentary about 85-year-old sushi master Jiro Ono, his renowned Tokyo restaurant and his relationship with his son and eventual heir, Yoshikazu. 7 p.m. Monday and additional Mondays through April 29. $5. 434 W. Second St. austin.violetcrown.com

"A Night at the Opera" at AFS Cinema. The 1935 film screens in conjunction with the new graphic novel "Giraffes on Horseback Salad" by Manuela Perega and Austin-based author and pop culture historian Josh Frank. In the novel, surrealism blends with Hollywood and film history, turning an unproduced script by Salvador Dali into a fantastic comedy starring Groucho, Chico and Harpo Marx, who star in "A Night at the Opera." The book will be available for purchase. 7 p.m. April 8. $11.25. 6406 N. Interstate 35 Ste. 3100. austinfilm.org
