The cannabis business is hot these days. Look no further than the various sessions about it at this year's South by Southwest. Now, a luxury cannabis extract company has opened up in East Austin, with a hands-on twist coming later this year.

Hemp product brand Mineral has set up a brick-and-mortar location at 1105 E. Sixth St., Ste. 1, according to a news release. The store sells cannabinoid products like tinctures and body balms that tout a variety of health and wellness uses, including stress relief and sleep aid.

While Mineral is not the first shop to sell cannabidiol (or CBD) products in Austin, it does plan to introduce to the Sixth Street store a "terpene perfumery" later this year, where customers will be able to create their own bespoke tincture blends, according to the news release. Terpenes, found in the oil of plants like cannabis, are compounds that help determine aroma or flavor. Mineral touts its current storefront as a "cannabis perfumery," as well, because of how it formulates its ready-made products.

Texas has recently seen a boom of businesses selling products that contain CBD — a nonpsychoactive component of marijuana and hemp that doesn't produce a high, unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the component of the marijuana plant that is psychoactive. CBD products fall into a legal gray zone in the state, according to an American-Statesman report last year, with officials and advocates disagreeing on whether or not their sale is lawful.
