It’s spring, so expect more of Austin’s major arts groups to roll out their 2019-2020 seasons — today’s entry is Zach Theatre. New plays, musicals, theater for families and holiday standards make up the mix.


Sept. 25-Nov. 3: “Dracula: Mina’s Quest.” Prolific Austin playwright Stephen Dietz takes on the Dracula story.

Jan. 29-March 8, 2020: “A Night with Janis Joplin.” Stars Tony Award-nominated Mary Bridget Davies.

Feb. 5-March 29, 2020: “Every Brilliant Thing.” A boy grows up in this interactive, improvisational play.

April 8-May 3, 2020: “Roe.” A new play arrives about the Supreme Court decision in the famous case argued by Austinite Sarah Weddington.

May 27-June 28, 2020: “Reunion ’85.” Audience members join the interactive high school reunion for the class of 1985.

July 15-Sept. 6: “The Sound of Music.” The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical needs no re-introduction.


Sept. 7-Dec. 14: “Jungalbook.” This is an adaptation of the Rudyard Kipling stories.

Jan. 18-April 26, 2020: “The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show.” Take the little ones to this collection of favorite stories.

Feb. 29-April 4, 2020: “Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch.” Allen Robertson composed the songs for this world premiere.


Nov. 20-Dec. 29: “A Christmas Carol.” Dave Steakley conceived, adapted and directed this very Austin version of the classic.

Nov. 29-Dec. 29: “The Santaland Diaries.” J. Robert Moore has taken over the elfin role.

Dec. 7 and Dec. 14: “Holiday Heroes.” This joyous sing-along is for all ages.
