OUR TOP PICKS

Friday-Saturday: SXSW free shows at Auditorium Shores. Downtown clubs remain jammed through the weekend with official South by Southwest showcases that mostly require badges or wristbands. But that’s why the festival long ago adopted Auditorium Shores as a wide-open space where all locals can go hear some free music during the festival. Friday’s focus is on hip-hop, with Dungeon Family (featuring Big Boi and others), Kari Faux, Kota the Friend and our current Austin360 Artist of the Month, Abhi the Nomad. Saturday’s lineup serves Americana fans, with Patty Griffin, Andrew Bird, Courtney Marie Andrews and William Tyler. 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. 900 W. Riverside Drive. A free SXSW guestpass is required for admission; get it at guestpass.sxsw.com. — P.B.

Sunday: Ice Cube at ACL Live. The star of “Are We There Yet?” and the “Friday” franchise has pivoted back roots in rap over the past few years. In 2015, he co-produced the excellent N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton.” In 2016, he celebrated the 25th anniversary of his second solo album “Death Certificate” with a re-release, and in December, he dropped his first collection of original material since 2010, “Everythangs Corrupt.” $51-$89. 8 p.m. 310 Willie Nelson Blvd. acl-live.com. — D.S.S.

Sunday: Ed Miller & Rich Brotherton St. Patrick’s Day shows. Miller, the host of Sun Radio’s marvelous “Across the Pond” program that focuses on music from his native Scotland as well as Ireland and England, puts the focus on Irish music for his annual run through several Austin venues with former Robert Earl Keen Band guitarist Rich Brotherton. They’ll be at Opal Divine’s north location (12709 N. Mopac) from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 9:20 p.m. to 10:30 p.m, adding stops between at the South Austin locations of Hyde Park Bar & Grill (4521 West Gate Blvd., 3-5 p.m.) and Opal Divine’s (2200 S. Interstate 35, 6-7:10 p.m.). All shows are free. songsofscotland.com. — P.B.

Sunday: David Garza & Friends at Continental Club. A longstanding SXSW-denouement tradition, The Continental’s Sunday show changed hands a few years ago from Alejandro Escovedo to Garza, who’s kept the torch burning bright. A benefit for the SIMS Foundation, the afternoon-into-evening affair this year will include Division Men (3 p.m.), Kiko Villamizar (3:40 p.m.), Lolita Lynne (4:20 p.m.), Genital Panic (5 p.m.), Alice Spencer (5:40 p.m.), William Harries Graham (6:20 p.m.), Bukka Allen Trio (7 p.m.), Vanessa Zamora (7:40 p.m.), Matt Hubbard (8:20 p.m.), Crybear (9 p.m.), Tito Larriva (10 p.m.), Willie Pipkin (11 p.m.) and Hunt Sales (midnight). $20. 1315 S. Congress Ave. continentalclub.com. — P.B.

Sunday: Cosmic Coffee & Beer First Anniversary. A four-day celebration that overlaps with the SXSW day-party onslaught, this celebration of South Congress’ wildly popular new hangout has an especially strong Sunday finale, with Austin expat Ian Moore playing an 8 p.m. set on the indoor stage. Outside, more acts will begin at 2 p.m. and play through sundown, including the Dirty River Boys, Johnny Chops, Western Youth and Christy Hays, plus a St. Pat’s salute from Silver Thistle Bagpipes & Drums. Free. 121 Pickle Road. cosmiccoffeebeer.com. — P.B.

Thursday: A Bowie Celebration at Paramount Theatre. It hasn’t been hard to find tribute shows to David Bowie in clubs around town since his death in 2016, but this touring show promises to be on another level. Austin’s own guitar great Charlie Sexton and longtime Bowie keyboardist Mike Garson head up a cast that also includes Earl Slick, Carmine Rojas, Gerry Leonard, Bernard Fowler, Corey Glover and Lee John. $20-$60. 8 p.m. 713 Congress Ave. austintheatre.org. — P.B.
