If you talk to the creators and star of “Shrill,” you’ll find out what the new Hulu original series is and isn’t. Mostly, you’ll find out it’s magical.

On Monday at South by Southwest, I sat down with star Aidy Bryant (“Saturday Night Live”) and executive producers Elizabeth Banks, Lindy West and Ali Rushfield to learn more about the show, based on West’s memoir of the same name. We talked about translating abortion stories to the small screen; how Bryant brings a sense of “goodness” to her life and characters; and what a post-”Shrill” world could look like.

“Shrill” premiered Monday at the Stateside Theatre. The show airs Friday on Hulu.
