St. Patrick's Day is the biggest day of the year for Irish pubs, and that's no different for the locally owned B.D. Riley's. The celebration has become a well-oiled machine for the bar, which will have plenty of Guinness pints and fish and chips at both locations. There will be live Irish tunes starting at 10 a.m. at the downtown spot. The Mueller pub gets festivities started a little earlier by screening a soccer match between Liverpool and Fulham.

2. Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden's One-Year Anniversary Party, Day One

The South Austin coffee shop and beer bar hosts its one year anniversary the only way it knows how: with live music. On the first day, expect shows from Suzanna Choffel, Dan Dyer, Juliana Sheffield and more. Delicious food will be provided by LeRoy and Lewis, Pueblo Viejo and Tommy Want Wingy. Look for some new cocktails on Cosmic's spring menu, local draft beer and a sneak peek at the upcoming limited Cosmic Cold Brew can.

3. Kick Open the Chutes with Rodeo Austin

A new event celebrates the start of Rodeo Austin's two-week fair and rodeo. If you've ever wondered what it felt like to walk on the dirt of a real rodeo arena or stand inside the barrel of a true rodeo clown, Kick Open the Chutes is for you. It provides a sneak peek into rodeo action with a behind-the-scenes experience, along with two live music concerts, food, a cash bar, rodeo-inspired games and a silent auction.

4. St. Patrick's Day Extravaganza at Darcy's Donkey

Austin's newest Irish pub will devote three full days to St. Patrick's Day celebrations. A group of bag pipers kicks off the weekend at happy hour on Friday. The next day begins bright and early with a showing of Six Nations rugby and demonstrations by the Irish Dance Center afterward at noon. And on St. Patrick's Day itself, live music plays all day. There will be a limited menu featuring some of Darcy's most popular items.

5. Dinosaur Day

Go prehistoric with the Zilker Botanical Garden at this event rescheduled from February. The family-friendly afternoon will feature a dinosaur parade at 1 p.m., so come dressed in your favorite dino costume or bring a friendly dinosaur stuffed animal. There will also be a prehistoric scavenger hunt and other fun dinosaur-related activities, such as creating your own prehistoric planter. The event takes place rain or shine.
