South by Southwest is very much an urban event. It takes place in the heart of downtown Austin, with tens of thousands of people gathering at various venues to mix, mingle, learn and chow down.
Most of that eating will take place in and around the convention center or the other SXSW venues, but on Friday and Saturday night, farm-loving foodies will trek out to Ardor Wood Farm in Red Rock for a high-end dinner under the stars.
Billed an an official SouthBites dinner from Barebones Living, this event from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. on March 8 and 9 is from the pop-up dinner company Tournant PDX, a venture from Portland-based chefs Jaret Foster and Mona Johnson, who will be joined by mixologist Ryan Manning. The menu includes Texas caviar, barbacoa with blue corn hominy grits and coleslaw with serrano honey lime vinaigrette and toasted pepitas.
