Art

Elizabeth Chapin at Wally Workman Gallery. Wally Workman opens its third solo show with figurative painter Chapin, whose large-scale works reference her Southern upbringing and the conflicted nostalgia surrounding the gentility and graciousness of the South. This culture is made possible by dark and graceless systems. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 12 to 4 p.m. Sunday through March 31. 1202 W. Sixth St. 512-472-7428, wallyworkmangallery.com

Expect a night of live music from Light Horse Harry, free beer, art activities, a signature cocktail, delicious food from Mmmpanadas, and the opening of Umlauf's next exhibition, "James Surls: With Out, With In." Surls is a prolific Texas artist and sculptor installing large- and small-scale pieces throughout the garden and gallery in his first Austin exhibition. 6 to 8 p.m. March 5.
