If you have a middle-school- or high-school-age girl who loves to be engaged in politics and advocacy, this might be a great thing to encourage her to do over Spring Break:
Girls Empowerment Network's Advocacy Day is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 22. The event at the Texas Capitol is open to 50 sixth- through 12th-grader girls and will include workshops on advocacy, the legislative process, how to create positive change, stress management and more.
The girls will break into small groups and discuss issues around the environment, gun violence, mental health, sexual assault, LGBTQIA discrimination at school, teen dating violence, sexual harassment and bullying. The girls can preselect what they are interested in.
Advocacy Day is free and includes breakfast and lunch. To sign up go to https://wearegirls.wufoo.com/forms/girl-advocacy-day-friday-march-22nd/.
