Today is everyone’s favorite incongruous food holiday. Amy’s Ice Creams celebrates ice cream in the dead of winter (fortunately, Austin has no winter) by giving away free ice cream today at all of its shops from 4 to 7 p.m. All customers are able to get one free small ice cream with a crush’n.

In addition to the annual holiday, there is more exciting news out of Amy’s. The Austin-based company is introducing Cold Press Vanilla, its first standard ice cream flavor added to the menu in more than 30 years. Cold Press Vanilla joins a group that includes Mexican Vanilla, Sweet Cream, Belgian Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, White Chocolate, and Coffee.

The new flavor replaces “Just Vanilla,” which became a casualty following a cyclone hitting Madagascar in 2017.

“The company’s research and development team tested many vanillas, and after a year and a half, they found the new flavor worthy of becoming an official standard flavor,” Amy’s said in a release. “This unique vanilla flavor is the result of a rare process to extract the flavor, the Cold Press Process. The cold press process preserves the rich, deep flavor and delicate bouquet from the vanilla bean.”
