Pets

Puppy Bowl Live III at Yard Bar. If you watch Animal Planet’s “Puppy Bowl” every year wishing you could see all that cuteness in person, you’re in luck: North Austin's pet-friendly bar is hosting one for the third year running. Participating pups aren't adoptable — because their owners have signed them up to play — but the event raises money for Austin Pets Alive. Watch them run around the gridiron while enjoying food, beer and more. 1:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Free for spectators. 6700 Burnet Road. yardbar.com/events.

Books

Children's Book Fair. At the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center's Children's Book Fair, meet children’s authors, enjoy story time and face painting, and discover great stories and books to take home. All activities are free with regular admission to the Wildflower Center. Full schedule is to be announced. But you're encouraged to stay and enjoy other areas in the center, including the Family Garden and Fortlandia. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. $6-$12. 4801 La Crosse Ave. 512-232-0100, wildflower.org.

The Austin Civic Orchestra travels to Georgetown's Southwestern University every year for a concert that this year will have classical pieces by renowned Austrian and German composers, including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with "Don Giovanni Overture," Felix Mendelssohn with "Infelice" and Ludwig van Beethoven with "Symphony No. 1." Guest performers are soprano Lynn Eustis and clarinetist Caleb Martin, an alum of Southwestern. 7:30 p.m. Saturday. $10-$15. Latasha Lee and the Black Ties, Soulman Sam at the Continental Club. Every year for her birthday, the Continental Club’s longtime PR maven, Dianne Scott, says she likes to spotlight at least two bands she thinks are “the cat’s pajamas.” For this go round, she presents a “soul/R&B/doo wop throw-down.” Longtime fans of Austin soul will be happy to see Latasha Lee and crew back in action. After a few quiet years, Lee started dropping a steady stream of new videos and music online last year, with a busy 2019 likely in store. $15. 10 p.m. Saturday. 1315 S.
