The Thinkery is offering free weekday admission to families of any federal employee or contractor who has been affected by the government shutdown.

“Maintaining affordable access for everyone is a top priority for Thinkery,” said Thinkery CEO Patricia Young Brown in a press release. “We know the shutdown is putting financial and emotional strain on workers and their families all over Central Texas. We hope that opening our doors to them until the shutdown ends creates an opportunity for those families to set aside those worries for a while and spend time playing and learning together.”

Federal employees and contractors just need to show a valid federal ID or badge at the admissions desk. Each employee or contractor can bring in three guests per visit.

The free admission is made possible by the Thinkery's Open Door Initiative, which collects donations to allow free admission to families who wouldn't otherwise have access to the children's museum.

The Thinkery is open 9 a.m. to noon Monday for Baby Bloomers, birth to age 3, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, with a 9 a.m. start for Baby Bloomers, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. It will be open all day this Monday for everyone because of Martin Luther King Day holiday. 1830 Simond Ave.
