You have roughly two more weeks until all of your New Year's resolutions to eat better and get fit are completely abandoned for an irresistible reason: the pairing of local beer with Girl Scout cookies.
Girl Scout cookies have officially launches Wednesday, and though you might be able to ignore their sweet, sweet allure for now, Austin brewery Circle Brewing is bringing back an event that will make it extra hard to say no to the calories (or to vest-wearing girls selling them). Circle's Cookies & Craft Brews tasting returns on Jan. 19, offering eight pairings of Circle beer with Girl Scout treats.
The North Austin brewery teamed up with the Girl Scouts of Central Texas for the first time last year to highlight the arrival of Girl Scout cookie season. Circle brewers received the cookies a few months beforehand and took the job of pairing them with beer seriously, taking the time to guarantee the pairings truly were divine.
And they've done so again.
For $25, you'll be able to taste your way through each of the cookie-and-beer pairings and receive a commemorative tasting glass and Beer & Cookie Tasting Badge in return. Each of the pairings you try will be marked off on a punch card. And if you gain any new cookie preferences as a result of the event, a Girl Scout booth set up at the brewery will guarantee you can take some home with you.
Here's this year's lineup. Some of the pairings have been brought back from last January, while others are completely new. (The Girl Scouts introduced a new cookie this year, a gluten-free option called Caramel Chocolate Chip, but it's not one of the offerings at Circle's event.)
•Thin Mints + Tuxedo Tshirt Black IPA: The crisp mint and chocolate notes of what might be the Girl Scouts' most beloved cookie round out the hop-forward, dark-hued beer.
•Lemonades + Lady Bird American IPA: With tangy citrus notes, the icing-covered shortbread cookies are a complement to the tropical-forward IPA that has proven to be a darling of the Circle beer program.
•Peanut Butter Sandwich + Doppel Blur Imperial Hefe: Peanut butter might seem like a peculiar pairing with the imperial hefeweizen's profile of banana and clove, but sometimes, opposites really do attract.
•Shortbread + Envy Amber: A classic cookie paired with a classic beer style is hard to beat.
•Thanks-A-Lot + Alibi Blonde: The combination of shortbread and chocolate in this Girl Scout treat won't overwhelm the crisp, malty characteristics of Circle's World Beer Cup winner.
•Girl Scout S'Mores + Disco Pig Brett Barrel-Aged Imperial Porter: A s'mores-styled cookie with a barrel-aged, high-octane porter? Doesn't get much better than that.
•Caramel Delites + Blur Texas Hefe: Let caramel and coconut mingle with the citrus profile of the hefeweizen for a little taste of heaven.
•Peanut Butter Patties + Party Pig Imperial Porter: You'd better like chocolate, as it's gloriously present in both beer and cookie.
