In yet another sign of rapidly changing Austin, what was once a dusty lot populated with food trucks will soon be a sleek boutique hotel with multiple food and beverage concepts.
Austin-based La Corsha Hospitality, the team behind Second Bar + Kitchen and Mattie’s at Green Pastures, will open the East Austin Hotel at East Sixth and Waller streets in January. The property’s signature restaurant will (fittingly) be called Sixth and Waller, an all-day casual restaurant serving comforting dishes like green chili queso Benedict, deli sandwiches and a black bean burger with jicama slaw, along with a full cocktail menu. The menu, which features some Southwestern flare, will be curated by executive chef Sean Bedford, whose resume includes time at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Col. and longtime La Corsha veteran and regional executive chef Jason Stude.
La Corsha beverage director and seasoned star of the Austin cocktail scene, Jason Stevens will oversee the beverage program that includes The Upside, a bar and lounge above Sixth and Waller that will feature spirits and ingredients from Central and South America, the Caribbean and the Far East. The hotel will also be home to Pool Bar, a courtyard bar focused on rum and agave spirits and a mixture of refreshing and filling bar food.
East Austin Hotel joins an increasingly crowded local hotel dining market that recently added Joann’s Fine Foods at the Austin Motel and Carpenters Hall at The Carpenter.
