Growing up in a family with 10 siblings, Tje Austin loved the holiday season.

In the new episode of "I Love You So Much: The Austin360 Podcast" coming out on Wednesday, Austin360 music writer Deborah Sengupta Stith chats with the Austin musician about the inspiration for his upcoming Swinging Motown Christmas show at Geraldine's, 605 Davis St., a free, family friendly show on Dec. 21 that will feature local musicians singing holiday classics with a nine-piece band.

Austin, who is also a cancer survivor, rose to national prominence in 2011 as a competitor on Season One of the NBC singing competition show “The Voice” and has been a steady presence on the city’s R&B scene over the last couple years, and this is the second year he's hosted an event to celebrate his favorite holiday.

He recalls many festive nights spent driving around in the big family van with little Styrofoam cups of hot chocolate in hand, looking at Christmas lights. His mom would lead the family in singing Christmas songs, he told Deborah, which is why he wanted to create a festive musical experience for kids here. Last year, the venue filled to capacity, so plan to arrive early for the free show. (You can find a list of half a dozen other specialty holiday shows taking place this month at Austin360.com.)

The winter holiday break for many Austin-area students will last for more than two weeks this year, and to help all of us avoid cabin fever, Kristin Finan and Nicole Villalpando joined "I Love You So Much" co-host Addie Broyles to talk about local winter wonderlands, Santa photo opps and family activities that can keep everyone busy. Villalpando also shared the latest updates from the ongoing Season for Caring campaign, and they both shared ideas for different community service projects that kids of all ages can participate in to remind everyone that this is a season for giving, not getting.
