In our lives, sometimes it's the simplest of things that we take for granted until we don't have them.
This year during the 20th Statesman Season for Caring program, Central Texans will learn about families that are without basic necessities. They are living in cramped campers, mobile homes with patched-together flooring, motel rooms with roaches, homes where someone doesn't have access to the shower. They are in shelters or living with friends.
They have medications they can no longer afford. Their bodies have sometimes begun to fail.
Some of our families are trying to end a cycle of abuse. Some have sought a new life after war in their homelands. Some Season for Caring families are learning to pick up the pieces after the death of a loved one.
We invite you to read their stories, look at their wish lists and donate to the families and nonprofit organizations that speak to you. Or make a monetary donation that will help a featured family with a need as well as hundreds of others served by the nonprofit organizations in this year's program.
Find gratitude in what you have and spread gratitude to someone not that much different from you.
Together, we can spread acts of kindness throughout Central Texas this season and all year long.
