It's been almost 30 years since the inaugural Turkey Trot, a series of races on the morning of Thanksgiving that will give you a head start on working off the coming feast. The Turkey Trot includes a 5-mile run (timed or untimed), a 1-mile walk and a Kids' K, all with different times. Plus, there will be live music, post-run snacks, children’s activities, fundraising opportunities, a raffle, team challenges, fun costumes and more. All proceeds are donated to Caritas of Austin.

2. 8th Annual Wine & Swine

At this Austin Food & Wine Alliance event, Central Texas’ most celebrated and adventurous chefs present their culinary personality in the form of all things pork. Each chef participates in the authentic pig roast, many staying overnight to roast whole pigs, to compete for a cash prize and the title of best pork dish. Pair each of their meaty wares with wines and other drinks. Chefs, taking diners on a culinary world tour, include David Norman, Evan LeRoy, Tavel Bristol-Joseph and more.

Our Austin360 Artist of the Month for June 2018 has been out of town for much of the summer and fall, touring with acclaimed singer-songwriter Mary Gauthier. 4. Astronomy on Tap

There have now been 50 Austin installments of this popular bar series about astronomical topics. In honor of that, the hosts will have a special event full of stars, galaxies and much more, featuring talks about our infrared universe and about how stars were made in the Milky Way and other environments. You just might get a glimpse of some of it via telescope. And if you've ever had burning questions about the cosmos, now's your chance to ask.

5. Night Before Thanksgiving at Infinite Monkey Theorem

One of South Austin's urban wineries celebrates the season of giving with this philanthropic event. Infinite Monkey Theorem has partnered with some of the city's best restaurants — Swift's Attic, Holy Roller and the Brewer's Table, among others — that will offer an assortment of Thanksgiving sides available for purchase, with 100 percent of sales benefiting SAFE. Plus, the winery will donate 20 percent of sales from suggested wine pairings and 10 percent of all on-site sales to SAFE as well.

6. Winter Wonderland

Winter is coming ... to the Circuit of the Americas. The second annual Winter Wonderland at the Circuit offers a completely new, immersive experience. Look for the Chinese Lantern Festival, a display of illuminated hand-crafted sculptures using a traditional technique. The celebration includes interactive entertainment, “immersing guests with the culture, music, arts, and life of authentic China.” The evening also includes carnival rides, a tunnel of light, the largest outdoor skating rink in Texas and more.

7. Santa's Wonderland at Hill Country Galleria

The Hill Country Galleria is introducing Santa's Wonderland, a magical and immersive indoor experience that will be open for a month during the holiday season. The free, interactive installation offers several photo ops and selfie spots throughout. There will be a professional photo team on-site to capture memories with Santa, with photo package options available for purchase. Santa's Wonderland is located across from the Central Plaza, next door to Café Blue.
