Austin gets plenty of chances to see Willie Nelson every year, including a taping of "Austin City Limits" this month and his annual New Year's Eve three-night stand at ACL Live in December. So maybe it's OK that Nashville is getting their own Willie event in January — but it sure looks like a special one.
It's called "Willie: Life & Songs of an American Outlaw: A Willie Nelson All-Star Concert Celebration," and it's set for Jan. 12, 2019, at Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville. Joining Nelson on the bill: George Strait, Kris Kristofferson, Alison Krauss, the Avett Brothers, Lyle Lovett, Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks, Vince Gill, Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones & the Little Willies, Jack Johnson, Lee Ann Womack and John Mellencamp, with more to be announced.
Tickets go on sale Monday at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster.com; some pre-sale options are available now.
The show is being put on by Blackbird Presents, in conjunction with Mark Rothbaum (Nelson's manager) and Keith Wortman. Blackbird has done many similar tribute shows over the years, including one at Austin's ACL Live in 2015 honoring Waylon Jennings that came on the heels of Willie's annual Fourth of July Picnic and featured many of the Picnic's performers.
