Fort Worth blues-rocker Delbert McClinton will turn 78 this weekend, but the big party down here will be three months from now. "Austin Honors Delbert Weekend," set for Feb. 8, 2019, will bring together the Paramount Theatre and the nonprofit Nobelity Project for two shows and a special ceremony saluting the three-time Grammy winner.
On Friday, Feb. 8, the Paramount will unveil a new marquee star for McClinton on the sidewalk in front of the theater, alongside existing stars for Lyle Lovett, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Joe Sears & Jaston Williams of the theatrical comedy "Greater Tuna." In a press release announcing the weekend activities, McClinton call the sidewalk star placement "a highlight of my career."
McClinton will perform at the Paramount on Saturday, Feb. 9. Tickets as part of the Paramount's Spring Season subscription package will be avalable Nov. 13; individual show tickets will go on sale later.
The weekend concludes with McClinton receiving the Nobelity Project's annual "Feed the Peace" award at the organization's annual Four Seasons hotel gala. The award, previously given to Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Dan Rather and others, recognizes McClinton for being "a dedicated supporter of many great charitable causes in Texas." McClinton will perform at the dinner-and-concert event; single tickets and 10-seat tables range from $500 to $25,000. Proceeds fund "much of The Nobelity Project’s work for Education for All in Kenya, Latin America and in Austin," per the event's press statement.
