The date for next year's Austin Music Awards is set for February 27, 2019, at ACL Live, with the initial announcement of special honorees Alejandro Escovedo and Dianne Scott sounding positively Continental.
Receiving the Townes Van Zandt Songwriting Award will be Escovedo, whose decades of accomplishments in Austin before his recent move to Dallas included a long-running residency at the Continental Club. That South Congress hub has also been ground zero since the 1990s for music industry fixture Dianne Scott, who'll receive the Margaret Moser Women in Music Award.
Tickets, $35-$150, go on sale Friday, Oct. 19, via the venue's website. Proceeds benefit the SIMS Foundation and the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians.
Headlining performers for the event will be announced in the coming months. Austin musician Charlie Sexton returns a musical director of the house band, which features keyboardist Michael Ramos, bassist John Michael Schoepf and drummer Conrad Choucroun. KUTX's Laurie Gallardo and Rick McNulty return as hosts of the show, which was founded in the 1980s by the Austin Chronicle.
