Music

Marty Willson-Piper, Salim Nourallah at Cactus Cafe. As a key member of Australian band the Church, guitarist and songwriter Willson-Piper soared to great heights in the 1980s. Since then he’s released a string of solo albums, drawing in a following that’s as devoted to him as to Church singer Steve Kilbey, and perhaps more so. Nourallah, from Dallas, is a pop songwriter and producer who’s worked with the Old 97’s and others. Laish opens. $20-$25. 8:30 p.m. Oct. 13. 2247 Guadalupe St. cactuscafe.org. — Peter Blackstock

It's getting extra love with International Sherry Week, which runs through Oct. 14 this year as a worldwide celebration of sherry. Sixth St. whislersatx.com.

Independence Brewing 14th Anniversary Party. One of Austin's oldest breweries is celebrating its 14th birthday with a party that will have, appropriately, 14 beers — all of them, a mix of special pilot brews and core variants, being kept under wraps until the bash. The evening also features a live music show by the Guy Forsyth Band. The theme of the party is "14-karat gold," so come dressed in your best gold finery. The party is free, but you can purchase a $14 ticket to reserve a commemorative glass and three beers. 4 to 10 p.m. Oct. 13. 3913 Todd Lane, Suite 607. independencebrewing.com.
