A lauded chef with a resume that extends across the country will soon be making Austin his home. The McGuire Moorman Hospitality group, which operates more than a half dozen restaurants in Austin, including Perla’s, Jeffrey’s and Clark’s, has hired chef Shawn Gawle to serve as the executive pastry chef, overseeing the pastry program at all of the group’s properties.

Gawle comes to Austin after serving most recently as the executive pastry chef at Quince, a three-Michelin-starred modern Italian restaurant in San Francisco. Gawle, who is a trained savory and pastry chef, previously served as head chef as Les Clos bistro and wine bar in San Francisco and has worked at Tru in Chicago, Lacroix Restaurant at the Rittenhouse in Philadelphia, and L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon in New York City.

Gawle was named a 2011 New York Rising Star by StarChefs and named one of Food & Wine’s Best New Pastry Chefs of 2012.

One of the most prolific restaurant groups in Austin, McGuire Moorman opened Joann’s Fine Foods at the Austin Motel last week, expanded into Colorado with Clark’s in Aspen this summer, and is in the process of renovating and revamping Swedish Hill bakery.
