Different Stages' Fall 2018 Fundraiser. How else would Different Stages host a fundraiser but with a staged reading of a Michel Tremblay play? The reading of "For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again" will feature Karen Jambon and Tom Chamberlain. The play is Tremblay's homage to his mother, who nurtured his imagination, his reclusive reading habits and his love for the theater and the arts but did not live to witness his first professionally produced work, "Les Belles-soeurs." Joshua Bell at the Long Center. Not into the music of ACL Fest? This celebrated violinist might be more your style. Bell, with a career spanning more than 30 years as a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and conductor, heads to the Long Center to play a program of Brahms, Grieg and Prokofiev (all of them violin sonatas) on his signature 1713 Huberman Stradivarius violin. "Bella Italia!" The Austin Civic Orchestra opens its newest season, themed "Destination: Europe," with Ottorino Respighi’s masterwork "The Pines of Rome," along with the music of Giacomo Puccini, Gioachino Rossini, Giuseppe Verdi and Antonio Vivaldi. Guest soloists Robert Cannon and Kyle Koronka, trumpeters with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, join the orchestra for this memorable performance. 7:30 p.m. Saturday. $10-$15.
