It was only a matter of time, really. Voodoo Doughnuts, the maker of some of the most outlandish donuts in the world, is making margarita-inspired sweet treats — combining two of our favorite things — although no alcohol is involved.
All locations of the doughnut shop, which has an Austin store at 212 East Sixth St., will have these margarita-themed donuts in celebration of National Margarita Day on Feb. 22.
Voodoo Doughnuts is teaming up with Jose Cuervo Tequila to offer the doughnuts. The Instagram accounts of both brands teased the coming specials this weekend, urging us all to stay tuned. Don’t worry: We are doing just that, with bated breath and growling bellies.
The trio of sugary offerings we might be getting includes one that resembles an actual margarita, complete with a filling of lemon jelly to stand in for the tequila-based liquid, according to Eater Austin. In addition to the jelly, it features vanilla frosting, lime dust and white sprinkles on the side.
In other words, it’s exactly the kind of doughnut margarita lovers will want to start their day with, before they start sipping on their favorite frozen marg. Order it starting Feb. 22 through Feb. 24 for $2.50, according to Eater.
You can bet many Austin bars and restaurants will have National Margarita Day deals as well. We’ll have a roundup of these tequila-loving spots that day, so check back on Austin360.com.
