Texas parents dress baby as Tejano star Selena for newborn photo shoot

Normally, only your family, friends and Facebook buddies coo over your newborn’s baby photos — but one Texas baby is getting attention across the country for her photo shoot taken at two weeks old, during which she was dressed as the late Tejano singer Selena.

Baby Natalia’s mom, Helen Gallegos, and photographer Sofi Guerra are life-long Selena fans who teamed up for photo shoot, according to the San Antonio Express-News, dressing up her sleeping form in “a tiny, rhinestone-embellished cap handcrafted by Guerra” and “with an itty-bitty single stem white rose and microphone by her side.”

Serious Selena fans like Gallegos and Guerra might also notice that Guerra’s prop vendor even added a red lipstick stain to the microphone, something that Selena, who rose to fame in the early 1990s, was likely to leave accidentally on her mics during shows.

Sensing how special it would be, Guerra posted the newborn Selena picture to her business’s Facebook page, Sofi Guerra Photography — but it wasn’t until Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, saw the photo that it went viral. She shared it with her thousands of social media followers, receiving more than 12,000 reactions and nearly 800 shares.

All the attention has meant that people are clamoring for Guerra to reproduce the cap and Selena outfit on a wider scale, but she said in another Facebook post that she “will only be recreating the outfits of Selena for my tiny clients.”

“I respect Selena and her family 100% and honestly I just wanted to honor her for the amazing person she was and still is to this day,” she wrote earlier today. “I create certain items for my clients to be happy with and to add a special touch to every photo session to make them unique. It was a tough decision because I want everyone happy but it's the right decision.”

Seeing Suzette Quintanilla share her ‘Bidi Bidi Baby’ photo was “an honor,” she said in another post. She is now getting tons of requests for her photography business, located in Rosenberg, in Fort Bend County.
