Revived ‘Roseanne’ show is coming to SXSW with pop-up restaurant and more

Ready for more “Roseanne”?

A couple of weeks before the ABC show returns after more than 20 years off the air, South by Southwest is hosting a pop-up to drum up excitement for the show’s comeback on March 27.

Our look at City of Austin permit applications earlier this month, to determine what SXSW has in store for us, revealed there would be an event related, in some way, to “Roseanne” at the Volcom Garden venue on East Sixth. Now, we know more about it.

As usual, there's a mess of SXSW films with Austin and Texas ties. Here are eight worth keeping an eye on.

The pop-up, running from March 10-12, will include a recreation of Lanford Lunch Box, the restaurant that titular character Roseanne Conner opened on the show with her family and former boss, according to a press release. Also coming to life are other crucial locales from the show: the Conner family’s living room, kitchen and garage.

And yes, you’ll be able to relax on the iconic couch.

SXSW’s version of Lanford Lunch Box will serve a menu of dishes from the show, such as loose-meat sandwiches, pies, coffee and Canoga Beer (the fictional brand of root beer featured in “Roseanne”), according to the release. There will also be koozies and other swag at the pop-up at 1209 E. Sixth St.

Plus, on March 10 and 11, both new and old cast members — Lecy Goranson, Michael Fishman and Emma Kenney — will host a meet-and-greet and “Roseanne” trivia. Check out the pop-up from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the first weekend of the fest.

“Roseanne” isn’t the only show popping up during SXSW. HBO’s “Westworld” is setting up a themed park that will feature reproduced versions of iconic locations and elements from the hit HBO series, including the Coronado hotel and the Mariposa Saloon.

The “Roseanne” reboot, starring Roseanne Barr, will feature eight episodes with Roseanne now a grandmother.
