The Jayhawks came into the music scene during the mid-1980s, influencing many bands that played the Twin Cities circuit at that time. Since their inception, the American country-rock group has released eight studio albums and had multiple personnel changes; only two of the original members are still present. The band is returning to the road after a brief hiatus — the second one in the group’s history — to promote the reissue of three albums released between 1997 and 2003. They will play Stubb’s on Oct. 13; tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
It’s not all about the veterans: A group of younger rockers is stopping by Austin in November. Allah-Las, a rock band from Los Angeles, was formed in 2008 around a mutual love for records, LA history and the beach, passions that are reflected in their sound. Their last album, “Worship the Sun,” was released this year, filled with jangly guitars and vocal harmonies resembling that of 1960s folk rock groups. The band will play Nov. 14 at the Parish, with tickets going on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
Other shows going on sale Friday morning:
• Phillip Phillips at Stubb’s (Sept. 23)
• The Band of Heathens at the Parish (Sept. 27)
• Ha Ha Tonka at the Belmont (Oct. 10)
• Cory Morrow & the Dirty River Boys at ACL Live (Nov. 13)
• Bear’s Den at the Parish (Nov. 13)
• The Dirty Guv’nahs at Stubb’s (Nov. 19)
• Alexz Johnson and Jared & the Mill at Stubb’s (Nov. 29)
Coming up: Duran Duran will play ACL Live as part of the Circuit of the Americas’ Fan Fest on Nov. 1. Tickets will go on sale next Friday, Sept. 5.
Send us your jumping photos
Do you jump for pics?
I do it all the time. My husband’s good at capturing me at precisely the right moment, so it looks like I either fell from outer space, learned how to levitate or can jump sky-high.
Now I’m writing a story about how you can perfect your own jumping photos. But I need your help — in the form of photos.
Have a favorite jumping photo you’d like to share? Send it to me! Have an example of a jumping photo gone wrong? I want those too.
Submit your best shots by using #fitcityaustin on Instagram or Twitter, or email them to firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll pick the best ones to use in a photo gallery with the story.
