Austin broadcaster and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has staked his claim in an array of fields over the course of his career: radio, video, merchandise, White House influence. But one industry into which he has not dabbled to date is acoustic folk music.
Internet satire outlet Super Deluxe, however, has dared to dream. In a video uploaded to Facebook on Friday morning and titled “Alex Jones Rants as an Indie Folk” song, the meme absurdists alter some of Jones’ most surreal soundbites, reimagining them as lines from the kind of sensitive, campfire-ready music you might hear from sad, scruffy bros like Bon Iver (aka Justin Vernon). Take a listen:
Some of the most notable Jones-isms set to dulcet tones reminiscent of the Wisconsin wilderness:
- "Obama and Hillary both smell like sulfur.”
- “Literal vampire potbelly goblins are hobbling around, coming after us.”
- “We’re going to stab your daughter at the mall.”
- The sound Jones’ spirit apparently makes when it gets close to “evil” -- “AAAHHH” -- is repurposed as a Vernon-esque bout of falsetto emoting.
The tune most resembles Bon Iver’s “Flume.” If you want to get technical, there’s not nearly enough noise in Super Deluxe’s song to sound like anything off of Vernon’s latest album, “22, A Million.”
But I digress.
