Alamo Drafthouse chain to eliminate plastic drinking straws

The Alamo Drafthouse will get rid of plastic drinking straws from all company-owned theaters by the end of the month, says the Hollywood Reporter.

This includes theaters in Austin, Kansas City, New York, Raleigh, San Antonio and San Francisco -- about half of the brand’s 35 locations. (About half are franchises.)

Apparently the Drafthouse is the first nationwide theater chain to do so.

The Drafthouse plans on replacing plastic straws with corn-based biodegradable straws.

The move to eliminate single-use straws entirely is not without controversy. Many folks who cannot use their hands or who have other disabilities rely on bendy straws to, you know, drink things.
