Matthew McConaughey talks about how he named his son Matthew without naming him Matthew

One of the wonderful things about Matthew McConaughey press tours is that we learn so much.

Recall when he talked about his father buying a hot watch when he was promoting “Gold” and where his hair for that movie came from.

Over on “Good Morning America,” our hero revealed that his
eldest son, Levi, 9, is named for the actor’s favorite Bible verse, Matthew 6:22, which is “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light” (Single is also often interpreted as “perfect” or “whole” or “sound.”)

McConaughey, 47, said that he and his wife, Camila Alves, decided on Levi for a few reasons.

"Levi's another name for Matthew in the bible," the "Dark Tower" actor said." "We had talked about possibly Matthew, Jr. if he was a boy. And my favorite [verse] in the bible is Matthew 6:22."

Oh, it gets better.

"We find out he’s a boy when he’s born. You’re not thinking about the name, right?" he continued.

(Actually, people are totally thinking of a name for literally nine months, but proceed, fam.)

"An hour later, the doctor comes up and he hands you that card to fill out: 'Blank was born at 6:22 p.m.,'” our man said. “So we went, 'It’s Levi.'"

McConaughey’s new film, "The Dark Tower" opens nationwide Friday.
