Judge orders A.B. Quintanilla, brother of Selena, jailed over child support

A.B. Quintanilla, brother of slain Tejano star Selena, was arrested during a courthouse appearance in Corpus Christi on Wednesday.

Quintanilla was in court over accusations of nonpayment of child support. He was placed on the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office’s Top 10 Most Wanted list at the beginning of August for missing a court hearing.  He missed another court hearing earlier this month.

Though he did pay more than $98,000 in child support and attorney's fees on Wednesday, Corpus Christi TV station KIII TV reported, Judge Missy Medary ordered him to be taken into custody.

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported that Medary told Quintanilla: "I cannot make you a dad. I cannot make you an emotional father. I cannot make you emotionally there for your son. I cannot make you physically there for your son. But I can make you financially responsible for your son and that is what I'm going to do today."

Medary ordered Quintanilla jailed after expressing her beliefs that he did not take the court seriously, the Caller-Times reported. At an unspecified time, she said she would bring him back to see if he’s reconsidered his  child support responsibilities.
