Food & Wine confirms what Texans already knew about Whataburger: It’s all about the HBCB

I have been saying this to non-Texans for years: You don’t go to Whataburger and just order a plain, no-frills burger. You go to Whataburger expecting something grand. So you order something grand. And your life is changed forever. 

Food & Wine writer David Landsel penned a love letter to the W, shouting out the Chop House Cheddar Burger and the green chile burger, both seasonal favorites. He waxes poetic about the onion rings (“crispy, battered, not boringly bread-crumbed”) and the myriad of sauces from spicy ketchup to jalapeno ranch.

And he presents the age-old questionWhich is better, Whataburger or In-N-Out? Landsel says the beloved Texas fast food chain’s patties just don’t stack up, but wait a second -- it’s not about the burgers, y’all. Whataburger’s real shining star -- and look, everyone who’s lived in Texas for longer than five minutes knows this -- is the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit. An HBCB, if you will.

“A chicken strip, plucked from the all-day menu, an avalanche (not an exaggeration) of Whataburger's famous Honey Butter drizzle, helpfully sold in squeeze bottles at fine grocery stores all across Texas, if you're looking for the perfect souvenir, and a warm biscuit—for a couple of bucks, it's something like heaven.”

Something like heaven is right. Does In-N-Out offer this delicious honey butter goodness? How about a buttermilk biscuit? Didn’t think so.
