No bizarre food for Travel Channel personality Andrew Zimmern yesterday — the chef was at Ramen Tatsu-Ya filming for his new show, “The Zimmern List.” He enjoyed a bowl of ramen with the restaurant’s owner-chefs, Tatsu Aikawa and Takuya Matsumoto, according to Eater Austin.
“The Zimmern List” gives the James Beard Award-winning host a break from eating really strange foods (no, really: everything from horse rib to deep-fried, wok-sautéed tarantulas). For the new Travel Channel series, 18 episodes at 30 minutes each, he will highlight recommended eats at various cities.
No word on whether he also visited the other Austin restaurant of Aikawa and Matsumoto, Kemuri Tatsu-ya — a fusion spot that combines Japanese and Texas flavors to delicious effect, according to our restaurant critic Matthew Odam, who reviewed it earlier this year.
