Texas Biennial announces details of special exhibits

Get out your calendars, pencil it in.

The 2013 Texas Biennial has announce details of two fifth anniversary special exhibitions in celebration of the 5th anniversary of the longest-running state visual arts biennial in the U.S.

Each features work by past biennial artists and both open the weekend of Aug. 23-24.

At Houston’s Lawndale Art Center, the “Texas Biennial Invitational” features current work by Christie Blizard, Marcelyn McNeil, Tom Orr and Brad Tucker, all past Texas Biennial artist. McNeil and Tucker are also included in the 2013 biennial.

And at Big Medium in Austin, “New and Greatest Hits: Selected Work by Texas Biennial Artists, 2005-2011” features works by 26 artists.

The “Invintational” has its opening 5 to 6 :30 p.m. Aug. 23. “Greatest Hits” opens 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 24.

Both exhibits continue through Sept. 28.

The “TX: 13,” the principle bienniel exhibit takes place Sept. 5 – Nov. 9 at San Antonion’s Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum.
