EARLIER: The Smithsonian announced Friday that artist Kehinde Wiley would paint former President Barack Obama’s official presidential portrait.
As Pitchfork reports, Wiley is “world-renowned for his portraits of young black men wearing the latest in hip-hop street fashion.” Subjects of his portraiture work include Notorious B.I.G., LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Ice T and Michael Jackson.
