There’s the Tony’s, the Emmy’s, the Oscar’s.

Now — perhaps thanks to the “‘Glee’ Effect” — it’s time to get ready for the GAHSMTA’s.

The Long Center, Zach Theatre and the University of Texas are teaming up to present the 2014 Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Awards — or the GAHSMTA’s — officials announced today.

On April 17, 2014, the Long Center’s Dell Hall will host the awards ceremony, with 20 area high schools signed up to compete in a variety of categories such as Outstanding Musical and Outstanding Featured Actor or Actress. Expect performances and more at the ceremony which is open to the public.

Organizers say that Austin’s participation in 2014 will hopefully lead to local Austin winners will going on to compete in the 2015 National High School Musical Theatre Awards.
