City to unveil temporary public art projects

The City of Austin’s Art in Public Places Program will unveil four temporary public art projects Nov. 16.

All are part of AIPP’s Tempo initiative, a program launched earlier this year.

The city commissioned 11 projects that will be installed in Austin parks through summer 2014.

Three of the very modestly budgeted projects are in East Austin parks are timed to coincide the East Austin Studio Tour, the free, self-guided tour of studios, galleries and installations east of IH-35 produced by visual arts nonprofit Big Medium.

The “Tempo” Kick-off Celebration will be at noon Nov. 16 at noon at Plaza Saltillo, 412 Comal St., the site of Jessica Braun “Festoon.”

The East Austin Studio Tour is held November 16-17 and 23-24 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
