In advance of ” Lifelike,” a new exhibit the Blanton Museum of Art is hosting a free panel discussion with several of the exhibit artist followed by a sneak peek of the exhibition before it officially opens to the public.
The event is part of the Blanton’s monthly “Third Thursday,” a free evening slate of programs and activities.
Who: Artists Keith Edmier, Peter Rostovsky, and Isaac Layman as well as Lifelike curator Siri Engberg.
When: 6 p.m. June 20
Where: Blanton Museum of Art, Smith Building Auditorium Cost: Free Artists Keith Edmier, Peter Rostovsky, and Isaac Layman, will discuss their diverse works included in the Blanton’s summer exhibition Lifelike, in a conversation with the exhibition’s curator, Siri Engberg of the Walker Art Center.
Up for discussion is the artists’ fascination with realism and the ways in which its been integrated into contemporary art from the 1960s to present.
Artists featured in “Lifelike” include Andy Warhol, Ai Weiwei, Gerhard Richter, Ron Mueck and Vija Clemens.
Among the works in “Lifelike” are Edmier’s “Bremen Towne” installation, a lifesize reconstruction of the kitchen in his childhood home.
“Lifelike” opens to the public June 23 and continues through Sept 22
