Beyond ACL: Tiny Park Gallery

Editor’s note: This article was originally published October 9, 2013

News is that the second weekend of the ACL festival is sold out. But maybe the throngs at Zilker Park aren’t your thing in the first place.

At Tiny Gallery, there’s a beguiling — and smart — dual showing of Joseph Noderer’s paintings and Jamie Panzer’s sculptures.

Noderer’s intense images blur the line between abstraction and realism, figuration and — dream-like unease, perhaps? There might be monsters in Noderer’s lush, overgrown landscapes.

Panzer plays with wood. He reconfigures tree limbs and branches into news forms that are at once whimsical and thoughtful.

Tiny Park is open 12 noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and by appointment. It’s in East Austin 1101 Navasota Street … and where it’s easy to park.
