Beyond ACL: Pepe Romero

Editor’s note: This article was originally published October 3, 2013

While all manner of guitarists will be grinding their axes at ACL this weekend… the incomparably talented Pepe Romero will play a solo concert in Austin Saturday.

Romero — a veritable icon of Spanish classical guitar — will play an all-Spanish program in honor of the centenary of his father’s birth, composer and guitarist Celedonio Romero (1913-1996).

On the program is Spanish music from five centuries including works by Fernando Sor, Francisco Tárrega and Joaquín Rodrigo, as well as works by Celedonio Romero.

The concert is presented by Austin Classical Guitar and tickets are selling briskly.

8 p.m. Saturday
