Austin Shakespeare is taking “Anthem,” its stage adaptation of Ayn Rand’s novel, to New York this fall for an Off-Broadway run.
The production, directed by Austin Shakespeare artistic director Ann Ciccolella, premiered in Austin at the Long Center in 2011.
Previews at the Baryshnikov Arts Center’s Jerome Robbins Theater in New York begin Sept. 25. An opening is scheduled for Oct. 4 followed by a 10-week run through Dec. 1.
Rand’s dystopian science fiction-esque novel was adapted for the stage by Jeff Britting, curator of the Ayn Rand Archive in Los Angeles. Britting was the associate producer on the 1997 Academy Award-nominated documentary “Ayn Rand: A Sense of Life,” composing a score for the film.
