On Friday, 6:30 p.m. Aug. 2, as part of the Art After Six series of artist’s talks at City Hall’s People’s Gallery, Michael Anthony Garcia will be discussing his two installations currently on view. The talk is free.
Assemblages of used clothing, Garcia’s “Portico” and “Ex X/O” are prominently displayed in the City Hall’s atrium.
Garcia’s work is part of this year’s crop of more than 100 artworks that make up the annual “The People’s Gallery” exhibit, curated by Austin artists Jeff Williams and Werllayne Nunes, and Women & Their Work’s Rachel Koper.
“Clothing has so many connotations to it,” Garcia told an American-Statesman writer earlier this year. “People can define you by what you’re wearing.”
Garcia is also the curator of “Young Latino Artists 18: Con/Juntos” currently on view at Mexic-Arte Museum.
