A new business in Southwest Austin is about to tackle two of the biggest morning food groups in one fell swoop: smoothies and coffee.
Austin companies JuiceLand and Little City Coffee have teamed for a shop with a drive-thru located in the retail center at Southwest Parkway and MoPac that’s also home to a Best Buy .
The location at 5030 S. MoPac opens Wednesday at 7 a.m. and will be the 27th Austin location for JuiceLand, which has partnered with longtime Austin brand Little City for a full menu of coffee-based drinks that will complement JuiceLand’s existing menu of organic juices, smoothies and grab-and-go plant-based meals.
Little City operated popular cafes on the Drag and Congress Avenue for years, and when the downtown location closed in 2011, Joel Shuler of Austin roaster Casa Brasil Coffees purchased the brand and kept it alive as Little City Coffee Roasters, which sells its whole beans to local businesses and online.
JuiceLand has used Little City’s cold brew for years, but this will be their first time serving the company’s hot coffee and espresso-based drinks. The new collaboration’s signature drink will be an oat milk latte made with Little City’s Messenger Blend Espresso.
"I think it’s not a stretch to say this is the best juice, smoothie and coffee bar combination drive-thru in the country," JuiceLand founder Matt Shook said. "Coffee of this quality with our menu is just something that doesn’t happen. No city has this."
The JuiceLand and Little City location will be open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday for takeout and drive-thru service. JuiceLand also announced that by Wednesday it will have reopened lobbies at all of its shops for takeout service.
"Little City and JuiceLand share many common values that make this a great fit: dedication to sourcing the best quality, knowledge of our products at a deep level, and a constant search for quality while at the same time, not taking ourelves too seriously," Shuler said.
