The far-reaching West Austin Studio Tour, cousin to the older East Austin Studio Tour, has been postponed amid ongoing coronavirus concerns.

It had been slated for two weekends starting May 9.

The free, annual, self-guided art event scattered art lovers around artists’ actual studios as well as some galleries and pop-up shows all over the western side of town.

"We are currently working on creative solutions that will not only serve artists in the present, but complement and reinforce our mission and programs year round," leaders of Big Medium, the nonprofit advocacy group that stages the event, announced in statement Thursday. "We will continue to provide ways for artists to create, exhibit and discuss their work both virtually this spring and in-person this fall. More details to be announced soon."

All of Austin’s museums, galleries, theaters and concert venues have been closed since the the city of Austin and Travis County prohibited crowds of more than 10 to gather on March 17. Many arts and cultural groups have moved their operations online, as Big Medium plans for WEST.

Big Medium’s own gallery and offices have been closed temporarily as well in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
