The only way boba tea could be any better is if it came with a little bit of booze. A Taiwanese tea-based drink, boba — also known as bubble tea — gets combined with alcohol at an upcoming pop-up at Bar Peached.
The Peached Tortilla’s downtown sibling restaurant hosts Elton Keung, owner of California-based Asian tea house Labobatory, on Wednesday and Thursday for the boozy boba pop-up. He sets up shop in Bar Peached’s downstairs space, the Eastwood Room, whipping up liquor-filled versions of his “famously creative” boba teas, according to a news release.
Keung’s two-day visit to Bar Peached is just one stop on a cross-country tour that also includes Houston. But it’s not his first time here: He was originally in Austin peddling his boozy boba teas in 2017 during a pop-up at the Peached Tortilla. It was his first time to bring those drinks outside of California.
Here’s the menu to expect on both days.
Taro X Mezcal: lactose-free taro milk, Vida Mezcal, honey boba
Bobagasm: Tito’s Vodka, Kahlua, Irish cream milk, honey boba and the Original Alcoholic Boba Drink
Johnny Bobaseed: Applejack, green apple green tea, green apple garnish, honey boba
Gender Fluid: Malibu Rum, strawberry jam, strawberry garnish, honey boba
California Creamin’: Mother Earth Cali Cream, Labobatory’s signature butterscotch cream, honey boba
The pop-up runs from 4 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday at Bar Peached, 1315 W. Sixth St. The restaurant, which as its name suggests emphasizes its cocktail-focused bar program, combines Asian flavors with Southern comfort dishes.
