As a result of the city of Austin canceling this year’s South by Southwest, International acts who had obtained visas to perform at the event will no longer be able to use SXSW’s official Visa Support letter as part of their paperwork to enter the United States, according to an email SXSW sent to international artists Sunday night.
Here’s text from the letter that international acts received:
As I’m sure you’re already aware, The City of Austin has cancelled the March SXSW 2020 event due to concerns over the COVID-19 virus. Being that you are an international artist, we wanted to send a quick note in case you were still planning on coming to Austin and entering the country with a B visa, or under the Visa Waiver Program/ESTA.
Due to the cancellation, the SXSW Visa Support letter is no longer valid. You will be unable to enter the country to perform without a work visa, as you are no longer showcasing at the SXSW Music Festival. We know and appreciate how much time and effort was put into performing at SXSW this year, and this is heartbreaking for all of us.
