The South by Southwest Music Festival is scheduled to take place March 16-22, and on Wednesday, the first round of wristbands for the festival go on sale to residents of the Greater Austin area.

The wristbands will priced at $149 (including tax) and individuals will be able to buy one wristband for themselves and one for another person whose name must be provided at the time of sale. Sales will take place online and must be completed with a credit card that uses an Austin-area zip code. The Austin area, according to SXSW guidelines, includes College Station, Waco, San Marcos and New Braunfels, but not San Antonio.

SXSW is also seeking Austinites willing to host international bands in their homes during the festival. Host families receive wristbands for the festival in exchange for letting an international artist bed with them during the fest. Austinites we’ve spoken to in the past, describe the experience of hosting an international artist as a rich cultural exchange.
