Strawberry Blonde. Dewberry Tart. S’mores. Spoetzl Brewery, the maker of the ubiquitous Shiner Bock, has made a number of more limited offerings over the years, but there’s one in particular that fans have been clamoring for — Prickly Pear.

Fans’ pleas to bring it back have been heard, and answered. Prickly Pear is now available nationally for a limited time in both cans and bottles.

Brewed with organic prickly pear, the beer had once been a summer seasonal that, in 2017, was replaced by the Strawberry Blonde, featuring fruit from Poteet, Texas. Prickly Pear made a comeback the following year, sort of, when it was added to Shiner’s Texas Heatwave variety pack along with the Mango Kolsch and Hill Country Peach Wheat.

But now it looks like the 4.9 percent ABV beer is back for real, as it’s in six-packs all by itself. The lager is "tart, yet slightly sweet, and packed with Citra hops to provide the aroma (that) complements the bright, fruity flavor," according to Shiner.

Prickly Pear has a suggested retail price of $7.99 and should be easy to find at your local H-E-B, Spec’s and other stores. For more information, visit shiner.com.
